I grew up in the small town of Marine City, Michigan with my family of four: my dad, mom, and brother. Growing up, I feel that I had a great childhood experience. From Kindergarten to 4th grade I was homeschooled, and then I transferred to a charter school called Merritt Academy in my 5th grade year. In the 7th grade, I transferred to Marine City Middle School, but after 2 years of attending I transferred back to Merritt Academy and stayed there until I graduated in 2014. The reason I share this information is because I feel that my grade school experience was very diverse - having learned in multiple school settings. This enables me to understand children's school experiences in mutliple school settings, as well as understand how different types of schools generally function.
I can't help but include a brief summary of my own experience in these settings. Homeschooling is a completely different experience when compared with a public or charter school education. In this setting I learned how to study on my own without allowing myself to get distracted, which became benificial to me later on in life. The charter school I attended was extremely pleasant and welcoming, and though it was much smaller in many ways than a public school, I have never regretted my decision to attend that school. Public school was a completely different experience for me. I must be honest: It was miserable; it was threatening and cruel. Yet I am thankful for this experience because from it I gained an understanding of what children might experience at school and inwardly when ostracized by their peers.
My background
One of my greatest accomplishments is being valedictorian of my senior class. The salutatorian and I were both required to give speeches at our graduation ceremony, which was an experience I will never forget. When I enrolled into Wayne State University the same year, I received the Gold Scholarship and membership in the WSU Honors College. Also at graduation, I received a scholarship for leadership from TRG, which is the group that founded and currently funds Merritt Academy.
Accomplishments
There are elements that I appreciate about all subjects, but my most favorite of all is Social Studies - particularly Geography. I love it so much that when it came to choosing a subject to major in, I chose Social Studies. I love learning about the world: its cities, its physical features, its history, and the people that live in it. I especially look forward to getting my students more excited to learn about the world. I also hope to travel the world someday and experience its many settings and cultures for myself.
Favorite subject
One of my most favorite hobbies is playing instruments. I played flute all the way through high school as principal flutist and I still continue to play it. I also play piano, clarinet, and bass clarinet. In addition to music, I enjoy anything artistic such as drawing, painting, or scrapbooking. Though alone time is always valuable, I enjoy spending time with friends and family as well. One might consider a rather odd passion of mine to be my love for globes and maps, which I collect and display as if to remind myself of my hopes to travel someday.

After high school I immediately attended Wayne State University in Detroit. There, I pursued a BA degree in Elementary Education with a major in Social Studies, studying the Spanish language to the intermediate level. In addition to attaining a bachelor's degree, I also maintained a position in the Irvin D. Reid Honor's College and a current GPA of 3.75. In my sophomore year I received a position on the Dean's List of the College of Education. Though I was a commuter to the university I still thoroughly enjoyed my experience - the city, the classes and all - and I have no regrets regarding the college I chose to attend.

My Professional attributes
One of the most important attributes an educator can have is motivation, and I am a very highly motivitated individual. In addition to motivation, I am hardworking and thorough in all of my work. Of course, another necessary attribute for an elementary teacher is a love for children, and grace to work with them five days a week. This I know is a quality of mine - otherwise I wouldn't have chosen to be a teacher! I also consider myself to be polite, gracious, understanding, and cooperative when speaking and working with other people - all which are important professional attributes. Keeping these things in mind, I feel I am a perfect fit for the field of Elementary Education.
